The year 1951 belongs to those that really don't have a good reputation. Political processes are in full swing, and leading representatives of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia are also involved. The revolution eats its children. Even across the ocean, the situation is not twice as idyllic - Senator McCarthy is looking for spies and agents wherever he can, and just six years after the most destructive war in history, the world is once again on the brink of armed conflict.
However, as usual, nothing is black and white. Fortunately, even in the most difficult times, people met, fell in love and brought another generation into the world. And it was no different in 1951 - tens of thousands of us have this date on our birth certificate - the date when they came into the world to get to know it, change it and rejoice in it.
And this year too, a lot of positive things are happening. The first anti-alcohol arrest station is opened in Prague. Professor Skály's concept is later copied all over the world. Emil Zátopek is breaking records and doctors are trying to figure out in vain where such incredible abilities come from this little guy. The National Memorial is open in Prague's Vítkov district and the new Vitana spice goes on sale.
Many things are changing. Pawnshops are abolished. A student book is introduced in schools and house trustees appear in apartment buildings. New words appear and others disappear - for example mayor, governor or unemployment. The first rock and roll recording is made in Tennessee and Jan Werich shoots the famous "double film" The Emperor's Baker and The Baker's Emperor.
So let's remember the year together, when the song Zítra se poda dans ubica by Pavel Kohout is heard on the airwaves, milk in Tetra Pak packaging is presented for the first time in Lund, Sweden, and the Christmas cave is discovered in Koněprusy.
