The book deals with the daily life of Czechoslovak bomber crews (and not only) in Great Britain from the founding of the 311th squadron until the end of the war. It does not forget the combat missions over occupied Europe or over the seas and oceans, yet its focus lies rather in discovering how the pilots, navigators and gunners lived, what they ate, how they spent their free time and how much or how little the island kingdom grew to their hearts . Their heroism, usually so obvious to them, collides here with fear and finally with death. The book shows that even in war there is such a thing as everyday life, and heroism doesn't always have to be talked about out loud.
