Two women – two life dreams and difficult 1950s in divided Berlin. Katharina Fuchs very authentically, engagingly, with attention to detail, but at the same time sensitively tells the real stories of two strong women: her aunt, who became one of the first female court presidents in the history of Germany, and her mother, a fashion designer working in West Berlin. Against the background of an impressive story, it also describes the difficult fates of families torn apart by the war and the subsequent division of Germany.
As the daughter of a Wehrmacht officer, Therese is denied university studies by the GDR, so she moves to West Berlin. Here she witnesses how the growing differences between the West and the East begin to divide her family at the same time. Even studies do not go smoothly - conservative professors and classmates make it significantly more difficult for Therese and her only classmate.
Sister-in-law Gisela seems sympathetic to Therese - she would also like to step out of her socially expected role. Although Theresa's brother is a "good match" for a seamstress from ordinary circumstances, the role of a housewife is definitely not enough for her. Gisela's dream is to design her own cuts in the newly created cradle of fashion.
