A humorous, sometimes even surreal story of an upper-middle-class family living in the wealthy northern suburbs of Tel Aviv. While the father of the family, Irad Gruber, is an eccentric scientist who invents a suit for the military (and the entire planet) that will protect against suicide bombers, the mother, Mandy Gruber, runs the family's textile factory for pajamas for an ultra-Orthodox clientele, and in her spare time is passionately devoted to plastic surgery ( her latest idea so far is "much younger and sexier shoulder blades"). As it turns out, Mandy undergoes plastic surgery because anesthetics and sedatives help her overcome her fear of her son serving as a sniper in the army. After one failed operation, Mandy Gruber dies and the daughter, who as the black sheep of the family has lived on an organic farm in the Negev desert with one cool hippie, takes over the family textile business. And extensive changes in the factory will not take long. Orly Castel-Bloom (1960 in Tel-Aviv) is among the most remarkable figures of Israeli literature of the last decade. Her novels, translated into all the world's languages, often satirically and with humor reveal the ridiculous sides of our lives. With her literary style, often described as surrealistic, she was able to chart a new direction in contemporary Israeli literature.
