There are few works in world literature as famous as Tolstoy's Kreutzer Sonata. When it came out in 1890, it caused a sensation unparalleled in cultural history. If someone did not know her, then it was - according to the reports of the time - perhaps just illiterate or someone who was not at all interested in literature and the relationship between men and women, or who lived in a particularly remote corner of the world.

A surprisingly bold and impressive revelation of marital discord, as this short story undoubtedly is, did not leave anyone indifferent. There was no place where she was not hotly contested. Old-timers in Russia were outraged to the point of insanity. This work was prosecuted in other countries, including Czech countries. The fight over Kreutzer's sonata lasted almost twenty years in our country before the court ruling was overturned. 

Tolstoy's "sexual" novel, as we might call it today, is a story about cruel jealousy that destroys a marriage, a story about a deep rift between two people who once loved each other deeply. In its questions, which are presented here in shocking nudity - after the relationship between purity and strong physical passion, after the relationship between man and woman - it will probably never cease to be relevant.
